[vc_row disable_background_image=”” css=”.vc_custom_1474288085355{padding-bottom: 20px !important;}”][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]I am happy to announce my upcoming experimental dance essay “MEIOSIS”. Recently I finished the editing and VFX (Timo Kreitz), we are now working on the colour-grading (Paul Nungeßer).
“MEIOSIS is used for the production of gametes—sex cells in the human body, daughter cells with exactly half as many chromosomes as the starting cell.
Meiosis in humans is a division process that takes us from a diploid cell to haploid cells. In humans, the haploid cells made in meiosis are sperm and eggs. When a sperm and an egg join in fertilisation, the two haploid sets of chromosomes form a complete diploid set: a new genome.”
During the research for performative elements I was investigating forms of rituals, movements and utopias, which are related to topics such as racism, sexuality and genetics. Meiosis’ choreography is the storyline: Eight dancers represent one fertilised cell performing how the cell goes through similar stages and uses similar strategies to organise and separate chromosomes. It must separate homologous chromosomes, the similar but nonidentical chromosome pairs an organism receives from its two parents.
Elements of the emergence of rhythmic gymnastics at the beginning of the 20th century function as the foundation of the movements. As a mass sport, which marked such a fundamental change of movement, rhythmic gymnastics and yoga were the triggers of a new body culture with a partial irrational idiocy of the body. In his ideological tendency, the film stylises the body‘s labours as the way to the backward-looking renewal of mankind; In this respect sports is also an indication of the racial myths of the national socialists already anchored in the 1920s. At the same time, there are references to the present referring time to body cult, work-mindedness and yoga.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Performers:
